“The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown
The Carpenter’s Boat Shop is pleased to partner with Skidompha Library (Damariscotta) for a Community READ celebrating the incredible story of the American Men’s 8-man Crew Team that won gold in the 1936 Olympics as told in Daniel James Brown’s book, The Boys in the Boat. The Community READ runs from June 26-August 1 and encompasses a number of different events and opportunities. Please keep scrolling down to read about them all!

FREE Book Giveaway
As long as supplies last, you can pick up a free copy of The Boys in the Boat at both the Boat Shop and Skidompha Library. All we ask is for you to fill out the Book Giveaway Signup Sheet that you will find at both locations.
Exhibit at The Carpenter’s Boat Shop
Come visit the Boat Shop to view our Olympic Rowing-themed exhibit featuring
- a wooden single rowing shell,
- pair of oars crafted by George Pocock – the boat builder featured in The Boys in the Boat
- artifacts from the 1936 Berlin Olympics including many items from Daniel Barrow, a bronze medal winning single scull rower, donated by his daughter Kathleen Flory from Walpole, ME
- a taped interview with Gold-medal winning Olympic rower, Ellie Logan who grew up in nearby Boothbay Harbor, ME
- rowing-themed art work by local Round Pond artist, Isham Martin (www.rowinginoil.com)

The exhibit is available for viewing throughout the entire READ until August 1.

Jewelry Raffle
Thanks to the generosity of AGA Correa and Son, we are also raffling off a beautiful piece of jewelry during the Community READ.
This piece is a lovely Fish Float Sphere Pendant! It consists of 18k Yellow Gold hand-twisted ropework that provides a frame around a 16mm Aqua Chalcedony sphere.
