Post & Rung Style Furniture
The
Boat Shop apprentices make post and rung chairs and stools from locally
harvested red oak or ash. The wood is riven (split) from the
log
and shaped on a shaving horse using traditional hand tools.
Almost no glue is used and we rely on the combination of wet
and
dry wood to ensure tight and long-lasting joints. The result
is both strong and elegant, beautiful and modern.
All of the chairs have a simple oil finish that
is easy to maintain. You can specify the cotton webbing seats
in
a variety of patterns and colors or natural rush or hickory
seat
for an additional fee.
We are able to take orders for ladderback
chairs, child's version of the ladderback chair, ladderback rocker or
child's version, bar stool, or stool.

Adirondack Furniture
Apprentices,
volunteers and friends make Adirondack furniture from pieces of wood
that are too small for use in the boats. They are made in
cedar
which is especially resistant to the weather if given a little care.
We make the classic lounge chair in two styles and an
accompanying foot rest. We also build a loveseat in the
adirondack
style.
Dimensions:
The classic lounge chair has a footprint of approximately 2'10"
front to back by 2'8" side to side. The loveseat footprint
measures approximately 2'10" front to back by 5'4" side to side.
We are keen to develop our repertoire of furniture and
useful tools and have plans for classic Arts and Crafts chairs and
stools. Please come and discuss with us what you would like
to
have.
